school field trips
We’re all about making learning fun here at the BIC, and our field trips are a prime example. From the very youngest of students in the My First Field Trip program to graduate level programs, students of all ages and levels are welcome to explore and engage. BIC would be happy to customize a learning experience for your school group. Contact Education Director Sally Dickinson to schedule a field trip for your school group!
MY FIRST FIELD TRIP
investing in our children
This successful multi-faceted program is designed to help the pre-school aged population of Northampton and Accomack Counties understand and interpret the culture and heritage of the Eastern Shore and her Barrier Islands through art, music, local history, and manners. Children come once a month for a semester, so each child visits 4 times. In addition, the program is offered to Northamton and Accomack County Migrant Summer School students each year.
BIC is excited to bring this program to 4 yr old students, and has begun expanding the program to Kindergarten students and now 4th grade students, with the firm belief that offering top-shelf art, music, local history and manners- all on a pretty farm, will help our young children get a even better start on life!
ART, MUSIC, PLEASE AND THANK YOU
The idea behind the My First Field Trip cultural enrichment program was that it just makes good sense to expose young children to top shelf music and art instruction, that basic manners (saying please, thank you and looking at people in the eye with a smile on your face) will take you far in life, and that developing a sense of pride of place will help our children develop confidence and a feeling of connection to this community.
BIC introduced My First Field Trip as a pilot program in 2011, and it has since grown to include almost 500 children each year. This program is made possible with generous support from the Batten Educational Achievement Fund, PNC Foundation, Gwathmey Foundation, Lions Club Charity Foundation District 24 D, Beazley Foundation, and Herndon Foundation.
We are thrilled My First Field Trip has taken root. We have high hopes that the program – and the children who participate - will continue to thrive for years to come.
