True Sons of Freedom Exhibition


A PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION OF VIRGINIA’S AFRICAN AMERICAN WORLD WAR I SOLDIERS

This Library of Virginia traveling exhibition uses photographs from the World War I History Commission Collection to highlight 24 African American soldiers from Virginia who fought overseas to defend freedoms they were denied at home.

The exhibition is in the historic African American Almshouse, now used as the Community/Education Building. Available for public viewing during regular museum hours. To arrange a group tour, please contact Monika Bridgforth, Museum Director.
