Education Programs for ADULTs

 

At the Barrier Islands Center, education and learning are life-long pursuits. The BIC offers a range of education programs for adults, from lectures that are free and open to the public to fee-based certification and enrichment classes. Additional offerings include art shows, book readings and activities varying from flat foot dancing to old time music to poetry readings by university students. Stay tuned to the events calendar, so you won't miss anything!  

Classes for Adults

The BIC offers adult enrichment classes throughout the year, exploring topics on a variety of interests, including birding, candle-making, floorcloth design and decoy carving. Additional offerings include certification courses in Boat Safety and CPR. 

Also look for the very popular "Dogs on the Farm" Training Classes, bringing a range of dog obedience, K9 Nose Work and companion search training classes.

LECTURES AND ACTIVITIES

The Barrier Islands Center invites a range of voices—including musicians, artists, scientists, historians, and scholars—to engage in dialogue with our audiences, offering multidisciplinary perspectives on a wide variety of topics. 

Many of these free and informal presentations are part of our Coffee Hour Lecture Series, the third Friday of each month from September through May at 10:30 a.m. Additional art shows and exhibits are scheduled year-round.
